i fancy myself an artist of sorts. i paint and attempt to draw and make crafty things whenever i feel too stressed to think. art is a release for me in another way that dancing and writing are. i’ve never considered myself particularly talented in visual art but that hasn’t stopped me from buying canvases and paint and oil pastels. most of the artwork hanging in my house is original!
so when my friend told me she was having an art party for her 31st birthday, i thought it was a fantastical idea. you can read all about her artful journey on her blog! i love to create. but her medium had me a little nervous. She choose to do a jewelry making party. you need to understand that i’m not a big jewelry person. i know being a girl means i’m supposed to love jewelry but i don’t. i love makeup and nail polish but i tend to go very light on jewelry. i was intimidated by her party idea. but i dug through my limited collection of jewelry and picked a few broken pieces that could be repurposed in new pieces and headed to the party.
we each started by making a pair of earrings and then could branch off from there if we so desired. i made a cool pair of earrings and i confess to being tapped out. but it was a great time and i enjoyed seeing the creative and artistic flair of the other ladies who of course loved jewelry!
I love all of your images of us concentrating! High five for making a beautiful pair of earrings when you don’t even wear jewelry like that! It was a wonderful time and I am so glad you made the first day of 31-derful, just that!
