I made a non-dramatic entrance into the world on November 11, 1978. It is forever a national holiday. Go ahead, take the day off in my honor.
In exactly 40 days, I’ll be turning 40. I can’t believe how fast time has flown by. It seems like just yesterday I was turning 30! I had just moved to Seattle from Kansas City and I was starting a new adventure in the Emerald city.
As I look back over the last decade, I’m utterly amazed by all the things I’ve witnessed, the places I’ve gone, the people I’ve meet, and the life I’ve been blessed to live. I used to think about where I would be at 40 and there was always a list of accomplishments I had hoped to check off some list that was supposed to validate my awesomeness. To be honest, many of those things have happened and many haven’t. Such is life.
If you’re reading this, repeat after me: THERE IS NO FORMULA FOR LIFE! I can’t say this enough. Your life doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s life. Comparison is the thief of joy. Live the life you were meant to live. Pursue the things that feed your soul. Surround yourself with people who speak truth to you while encouraging you to live your best life. Ok, I’m done pontificating now.
During my countdown to 40, I want to pause and give thanks for the first 40 years. Ya’ll, God just be showing out when it comes to me. It only makes sense that I take a little time to show my gratitude.
“I’ve got so much to thank God for. So many wonderful blessings. And so many open doors …”
I have no idea what God has in store for the next 40 years, but I can guarantee you I will thank Him continuously every step of the way. Let the countdown to 40 begin.
